Electrical safety checks.

Electric shocks happen!

We can safety check  any 2 additional appliances free of charge, on request, during our initial repair visit, and any further ones at £10 per check.

We believe that electrical appliances should be periodically safety tested for correct polarity, and a safe, functioning earth connection. A proof of electrical testing provides assurance that the appliances are safe to use.

Our test confirms that the appliance is connected to a properly earthed socket or other connection point, it ensures that the polarity and voltage is correct, and it provides an indication of the quality of the earth at the appliance.

It's not unusual to find that metal-housed appliances are not connected to an earth, and this makes them potentially very dangerous.

We've had customers report getting a tingling sensation when touching a dishwasher, for example, and an even stronger shock when they touch another earthed surface at the same time such as a steel sink. This is because the stray current appears at the metalwork of the appliance, then travels easily from the appliance to the earthed sink through both arms!  In these cases, invariably the appliance is not earthed and a serious electric shock could occur.  In a bad case of low electrical insulation, the appliance can be at deadly mains voltage.

As many appliances have water going through them, this makes those types of appliance even more potentially dangerous.

We offer,
on request , a free electrical safety check on up to 2 additional appliances during any initial repair visit,  with a proof of electrical safety testing document provided (via email) which can be kept alongside your gas safety documentation.  Additional appliances can be included at £10 per check.

Free checks apply to appliances where the supply socket is freely accessible and does not require removal of a built in appliance or other fixed item to reach.   Please note : A polarity test may not be possible if the appliance is supplied via a spur outlet or where the mains supply point can not be accessed. In these cases, a minimum of an earth loop test to the appliance earthed chassis will be undertaken.

This test will confirm that a safe functional earth exists to the body of the appliance.
