Mousey goings on
When a furry intruder goes to town on an appliance!
The lower photo is from when I worked for a well-known German appliance manufacturer. The customer had bought the appliance less than 6 months earlier when a fault developed where lights were flashing and the dishwasher wouldn't start a programme.
On removing the side panel, there was an immediate 'mousey' smell and inside, some of the internal insulation had been stripped away to form a nest.
Whatever the unwelcome visitor had been, presumably a mouse, it had bitten through various cables and seemed to enjoy the taste of the polystyrene float disc in the base of the dishwasher.
The top photo shows a similar problem I came across in a washing machine. From memory, I don't think the rodents had actually damaged the appliance in that particular case, but the nest was found whilst sorting out an unrelated problem with the machine.
